  • PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: TNHS sweeps...

Thomas Nelson has never made it to the 19th District championship game in softball.

But after clinching the top seed in next week’s district tournament with a doubleheader win Monday, the Generals are in the driver’s seat with their best chance yet at a district title and a berth in the 5th Region tournament.

  • PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Bethlehem...

Things aren’t totally settled yet in the 19th District softball seeding race, but they’re getting close.

Bethlehem shook things up on Thursday, beating Thomas Nelson 3-2 to hand the Generals their first district loss of the season and potentially shaking up the final standings.

  • CLASS 1A REGION 2 TRACK...

GREENSBURG — In just her first year in varsity track, Bethlehem sophomore Jeanie Downs became an instant impact player, winning a region championship and contributing to another runner-up performance.

Downs, a high-flyer for the Bethlehem volleyball team, found her abilities translated well to track and field, winning the long jump and placing third in the high jump at Friday’s Class 1A Region 2 championships at Green County. She also anchored the Banshees’ second-place 4x100 relay squad along with Buckley Sparks, Laurel Guthrie and Sydney Greenwell.

  • BASEBALL/SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: TNHS...

Following a 12-2 win over Nelson County Tuesday, Thomas Nelson is in the driver’s seat for the top seed in the 19th District softball tournament, needing just one win to clinch outright.

There is still a chance for a three-way tie, depending on how Thursday’s Bethlehem-Thomas Nelson game played out. The game was too late for this edition of The Kentucky Standard.

With an 8-3 win over Bethlehem on Tuesday, Washington County finished out its district slate at 5-3, with a tiebreaker over the Banshees, who sat at 5-2 as of Thursday morning.

  • STRAIGHT ARROW: A successful...

After the first week of the season was a bust for me, and with rain on Monday, April 23, and a dentist appointment the next day, it was April 25 before I got another chance to hunt again.

  • CLASS 2A REGION 2 TRACK...

Bardstown’s boys captured five event wins and runner-up results in two others Tuesday to extend the Tigers’ streak of Class 2A Region 2 champions to five.

The final tally was 120-82 for the host Tigers over runner-up Warren East. Bardstown has won the past five region titles since moving into Class 2A Region 2. The Tigers’ overall streak is seven straight, including the last two when they were still in Class 1A Region 3.
