  • No. 2 Campbellsville tops No. 5 Cumberland in MSC wrestling duel

    Campbellsville University improved to 3-0 on the year Thursday in Gosser Gym, as the second-ranked Tigers ran away with a 31-13 win over No. 5 Cumberland University in the first Mid-South Conference duel of the season.

    In the only Top 5 individual match of the night, fifth-ranked Noah Hunt got an early escape to beat No. 3 Johnny Papesh and give Cumberland an early 3-0 match lead.

    Just as every Mid-South Conference team, St. Catharine College views the Georgetown Tigers as the team to beat to beat each year. And this year, after meeting them last weekend in an early season tournament, J.T. Burton’s team will have three chances to upend the league’s perennial heavyweight.

    Lena Bramblett’s St. Catharine College women’s basketball team notched statistics in three categories last week. The Patriots won one game, lost one game, and had one other game that didn’t count at all.

  • Local players contribute in Centre win

    Centre College posted a 26-7 home win last weekend over Trinity University, building a 20-7 lead and never looking back.

    Senior Paul Downs, a Bardstown High School product, had a solid game on defense, tallying five solo tackles and one assisted, as well as contributing a pass break-up. Fellow senior Kent Simpson, a Bethlehem graduate, posted two solo tackles and two assists.
