  • Obama is the country's best chance for change

    To the editor:

In March, 1861 Abraham Lincoln was a lanky, 52-year-old, largely self-educated lawyer who had never previously held national office. He had seldom even left the tri-state area of his birth, but most historians, and common people, too, agree that this “greenhorn” was our finest President.

What made Lincoln great? He was intelligent, perceptive, a shrewd judge of people and situations and incorruptible. Using these qualities he led us successfully through the darkest days our young country had yet faced.

  • Thanks for making Alumni Day a success

    To the editor:

Nazareth Montessori Children’s Center recently had its ‘Alumni Day.’ It was a chance for former students and their families to spend an afternoon at the school which started their educational growth.

I was delighted to see that more than 100 families came to reminisce, work on art and crafts, sew a little something special and be creative with wood. Everyone enjoyed the ice cream cones and remembering their time at our school.

Thank you to all who came and an extra special thanks to the staff for making it a wonderful afternoon.

  • Mother, daughter luncheon was wonderful

    To the editor:

I want to thank Shelia Calvert and Sabrina Brock for the Mother and Daughter luncheon at the Church of God. It was very uplifting and spiritual. Thanks to all who prepared the wonderful food and helped make this a very wonderful Mother’s Day. May God bless all of you. What a blessing Shelia and Sabrina have been in my family’s lives.

  • Barack Obama not right for Kentucky, nation

    To the editor:

A lady recently wrote a letter to a weekly news magazine which expressed exactly my feelings about Barack Hussein Obama for president. She wrote “Obama is not too black, Obama is not too white, Obama is just too green.”

  • David Boswell right choice for U.S. Congress

    To the editor:

On May 20 Kentucky Democrats will go to the polls to vote in an extremely close presidential primary. However, an equally important contest is being waged for the United States House of Representatives.

State Senator David Boswell is the overwhelming choice of business, labor, education and farmers.

Boswell’s moral character is unimpeachable. He has served as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, was elected Commissioner of Agriculture and for the past 1-1/2 decades has been a citizen legislator in the Kentucky State Senate.

  • Reader surprised to see her car on display

    To the editor:

In January 2007 my boyfriend and I were in a severe car crash in which we were run off the road by a box truck, which caused us to cross the BG median and cross the opposite two lanes of traffic, and end upside down about 20 feet off the road. I was taken by ambulance to the hospital with severe facial lacerations and other bumps and bruises.
