Warehouse collapses at Barton

Half of a warehouse collapsed at Barton 1792 Distillery late Friday morning, affecting an estimated 9,000 barrels of bourbon, but there were no injuries.

Nelson County Emergency Management Director Joe Prewitt said one concern is that whiskey could run into a tributary of the Beech Fork River that is about 250 feet away.

State environmental officials were contacted and were on their way to Bardstown.

The incident happened between 11 and noon. Prewitt said that about half of the warehouse collapsed along the roof line and onto the barrels.
