  • Nelson Circuit Court sentencings: Sept. 14, 2011

    The following people were sentenced recently in Nelson Circuit Court. All had previously entered a plea of guilty or had been found guilty during a criminal trial. Unless otherwise stated, all jail sentences are served concurrently.

  • Boston man accused of sexually abusing child

    A Boston man was indicted for first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 in Nelson Circuit Court Wednesday.

    According to his indictment, Joshua M. Apted, 28, allegedly subjected a girl younger than 12 to sexual contact. Because she is younger than 12 she is incapable of consent, the indictment states.

    The alleged abuse occurred sometime between Jan. 1 and July 31, 2011, according to the indictment.

    Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions. Apted’s arraignment is set for 1 p.m. Sept. 22.

  • Bardstown man indicted for three counts of sex abuse

    A Bardstown man has been indicted for assault and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.

    Dan Edward Atwell, 37, allegedly forced sexual contact on another person three times between Nov. 1, 2008, and June 1, 2011, according to an indictment in Nelson Circuit Court Wednesday.

    Atwell was also charged with fourth-degree assault for allegedly grabbing a woman around the neck and pushing her into a bedroom, bruising the area around her neck, on or about June 1.
