  • Three charged with sex crimes against a minor

    Three Kentucky residents were indicted Thursday in Nelson Circuit Court for a series of sex crimes against a victim younger than 12.

    One set of indictments charges Charles Frank Michael, 28, Louisville, and Joy Quinn Michael, 27, Bardstown, with two counts of first-degree sodomy and complicity to the same, incest and complicity to the same, first-degree sexual abuse and complicity, and one count of first-degree criminal abuse.

  • Theft of vacuum cleaner sucks two men into jail

    Two alleged thieves have been swept up in the Nelson Circuit Court indictments for attempting to steal a vacuum cleaner from Wal-Mart.

    According to Bardstown Police Department Detective Lynn Davis, John Wesley Jackson, 40, Bardstown and Michael R. Price, 42, Bardstown, were working together Oct. 7 to steal a vacuum cleaner from the retailer when they were discovered by store security.

    They had successfully removed the household cleaning item from its box when Wal-Mart staff confronted them — but the pair had no intention of being caught. 

  • Trial on drug charges nets man 20-year sentence

    Despite efforts by the defendant to question the validity of a search warrant, a jury has sentenced a Bardstown man to 20 years behind bars after finding him guilty on drug trafficking charges.

    According to the Nelson Circuit Court final judgment of conviction, William Louis Rogers Jr., 34, was found guilty Sept. 23 and sentenced Oct. 21 on two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine, second offense) and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree persistent felony offender.

  • Nelson Circuit Court indictments

    Note: The indictment of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

    The following people have been indicted by a Nelson County grand jury.  They are set for arraignment in Nelson Circuit Court Nov. 18.

  • Former student gets year in jail for threatening school staff

    A former Nelson County School District student has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he threatened former Nelson County Superintendent Jan Lantz.

    According to a final judgment entered Oct. 22, Brandon Michael Board, 20, was convicted of second-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree criminal mischief.

  • Nelson Circuit Court Sentencings

    The following people were sentenced recently in Nelson Circuit Court. All had previously entered a plea of guilty or had been found guilty during a criminal trial. Unless otherwise stated, all jail sentences are served concurrently.

    • Gregory Keith Gilkey, 52, Bardstown, was sentenced to five years in prison for third-degree burglary and 12 months in jail for fourth-degree assault. His motion for probation was denied. According to court records, Gilkey broke into the residence of his ex-girlfriend, and then threatened and injured her.
