  • Nelson Circuit Court indictments

    Note: The indictment of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

    The following people have been indicted by a Nelson County grand jury.  They are set for arraignment in Nelson Circuit Court Jan. 6.

    • Donald Scott Hibbs Jr., 20, Bardstown, first-degree assault. Sometime between Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, Hibbs allegedly stabbed another person in the chest with a knife. Bail was set at $100,000 cash only, plus conditions.

  • Man charged for defrauding local non-profit

    A Bardstown man was indicted Wednesday for attempting to defraud a non-profit youth athletics organization of thousands of dollars.

    David W. Phelps, 32, is being charged with 10 counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument for cashing checks totaling $3,063 from the account of Bardstown All Stars without authorization to do so.

  • Suspect in fatal stabbing indicted for murder

    The suspect in the stabbing death of a New Haven man has been indicted by a Nelson County grand jury for murder and second-degree persistent felony offender.

    David Jerome Willett, 26, is accused of fatally wounding Eric Douglas Stallard, 39, New Haven, Dec. 2 after a quarrel between the two men escalated into violence.

    Willet was previously convicted of second-degree robbery in Nelson Circuit Court in September 2002. He remained in prison for the crime until April 2003, when he was released on probation.

  • Men receive five-year jail sentence for theft, high-speed chase

    Two Nelson County men who led sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase in May received five-year jail sentences Dec. 2 after pleading guilty to charges of burglary and theft.

    John Hall, 21, Bloomfield, and Steven Tyler Wells, 19, Cox’s Creek, were responsible for the theft of two lawnmowers and a trailer from William “Junior” Dugan May 10. Shortly after the theft was reported, an employee of Dugan’s spotted Hall and Wells at a gas station in a pickup truck hauling the stolen goods.

  • Correction

    An article in the Dec. 10 edition of The Kentucky Standard incorrectly listed the charges filed against Stephen Austin Howard and Maurice Greenwell in connection with the murder of Donald Marshall.

    Howard and Greenwell were not indicted for cultivation of marijuana.

    The Kentucky Standard regrets the error and any confusion it may have caused.

  • Case against Marshall murder suspects dismissed

    The case against Kenneth C. Mattingly, Stephen Austin Howard and Maurice Greenwell for the 2009 murder of Donald Marshall has been dismissed, but it will be reinstated at a later date pending the federal drug and gun trial of witness Nevelle L. Thompson.
