  • Trim Down, Bardstown! for 2008 is going to be structured a bit differently than it has in previous years. Plans are still tentative, but it looks as though we’ll be offering Trim Down at our new Flaget Immediate Care Clinic at 110 S. Salem Drive, across from Buzick Lumber on KY 245 — a great location.

The plan is to offer Trim Down one day a week, and to start it Thursday, Jan. 31. Participants would register and weigh in any time 11 a.m.-6 p.m. that day.

  • Some memos will be marked [Unpreviewed]. This means that I have not seen the film. Any information about the film content is taken from press releases, Web sites and other sources. The “Family Rating” is mainly taken from the Web site filmratings.com.

  • This is a true a story of the creature which is believed to inhabit one of the largest bays in Scotland as we’ll probably ever get.

Just like Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy, hard evidence is hard to come by. But this makes for an enchanted fantasy of a lonely young boy who finds a very old egg. The legend of the water horse is part of the Celtic folklore, and we see the creature, not really a monster at the beginning, grow into maturity. Along the way, it helps the boy bring to the surface a sadness which he has not wanted to believe.

  • This movie starring Gerard Butler (“The 300”) and Hilary Swank tells a very romantic story, but with so many sweet, homey touches that you might gag before the end. I’m as much a romantic as the next person, and I don’t mind a good chick flick, but this one just might put a diabetic in danger of sugar shock. Also, there is not an element of surprise and absolutely no tension. It is however a lovely story that lets you see how love can find its way in the saddest of conditions.

  • As some folks know, I had back surgery mid-November at a large, busy Louisville hospital. The reputation of the neurosurgeon and orthopedic surgeon who worked on my back is tops, which is why I chose them. Although recovery is slow, it looks like the surgery went well. My stay at the Louisville hospital after surgery was another matter, however.

  • Back in late March of 2004 I saw my first salamander outside of a zoo. She was in the garage during a warm, rainy night looking strangely exotic. She was glistening with moisture and spotted — and she was really big. It sort of freaked me out at the time because I did not know what she was.
