  • God is faithful and just to forgive

    By Billy Holland

Repentance is a common theme throughout the Old and New Testaments. Isaiah 55:7 declares, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the Lord.” Matthew 4:17 says, “From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

The most common translation of the word “repent” means to turn or return and more specifically, from a theological perspective, it represents turning away from evil and turning to God.

  • Prayer: The least and most we can do

    By Billy Holland

Recently, my wife Cheryl was talking about the need to increase her prayer time, and I was definitely agreeing that praying is very important in our spiritual life. In the middle of our conversation, she said, “we should turn our cares into prayers” and that instantly caught my attention. I love catchy phrases and told her that I just might borrow that slogan!

  • God is more than enough

    By Billy Holland

We’ve all heard the song, “He’s got the whole world in His hands,” but did you know this is actually from Scripture?

We read in Isaiah 40:12, “Who has calculated the waters in the hollow of his hand, and who has measured the heavens and determined the dust of the earth, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?”

  • SCNs seeking volunteers to help with flooding clean up in West Point

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth disaster relief ministry visited West Point, March 7. The area was hit hard by flooding after the Ohio and Salt Rivers reached historic levels.

As the mud-out process concludes, the Sisters will lead a team to clean, paint, and replace wallboard and flooring for uninsured homeowners.

Nazareth is looking for volunteers to begin this week to help with the work. West Point is roughly 50 minutes from Bardstown. Volunteers will work during the day and return home in the evening. Meals will be provided by the disaster relief funds.

  • WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH: SCNs still play role in local hospital, health care

When Nelson County’s first hospital opened in 1951, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth filled many of the roles.

“The Sisters were the nurses, they were the administrators, they ran the finances, they did everything,” said Kathy Hertel-Baker, archival director at Nazareth.

  • LIVING ON PURPOSE: Fear not, for God is with you

God has promised in his word that we will never be alone, and I consider this blessed assurance as a foundational pillar that supports our faith in him.

I trust him completely, and shudder to imagine drifting like a ship on the open sea without a sail, a compass or an anchor. May we be reminded that God is always with us, he knows our situation and always wants the best for us.

When we think about why we are here on this planet and what God’s plan is for us, we realize it would be wise to study his holy instruction manual.

  • An ordinary man with an extraordinary mission

    By Billy Holland

Like many of you, I’m very sad about Billy Graham passing away. Those who are younger will probably not have the familiar connection with him like some of us older folks, but nonetheless, I’m sure his books and recordings will continue having a beneficial impact on future generations.
