There are foods that are healthy and then there are foods that are powerhouses. I’ve got 10 here that are supersonic super foods that you absolutely should include in your diet if you want to lose weight, get as healthy as you can and look your best! Here they are:

  • Spinach: The healthy ‘fast’ food

    Dear Friends,

A favorite super healthy “fast” food favorite of mine is spinach. Not just any old bunch of spinach, but the stuff in a big plastic tub (I get mine at Costco). I use a ton of it during the week and eat it in a variety of different ways from salads, to side dishes and let’s just say, it’s a secret ingredient in my smoothies (shhh, don’t tell!).

  • Perfectionism is not a virtue

When we least expect it, perfectionism reaches out and knocks us in the head. It keeps us from following our heart’s desire and stops us dead in our tracks. Perfectionism triggers procrastination. This is when we tell ourselves we don’t have time to do it right so we do nothing. All of us have suffered with this affliction.

If you have been having problems getting rid of your clutter, it could be because you have a disease known as the Bag Lady Syndrome. When we start out housekeeping, we have the cute filing cabinets that hold our important papers. It does not take long to fill those paper consuming monsters with every scrap of paper that we think is important. Soon with those drawers bulging, we start piling those “important papers” on every flat surface in our home.

  • Be freezer frenzied no more

A few years ago (quite a few years ago, actually), a new cooking trend — Once A Month Cooking (OAMC) was born. The whole idea was to spend a day cooking, freeze what you make, then reheat it as needed; sort of DIY Stouffers concept.

  • Simplify your meals

In pursuit of saving money, we find ourselves scouring the world and the web for ways to cut corners and expenses. Nowhere is that more apparent than in our weekly quest to feed the family.

We kill ourselves searching high and low for coupons. We seek out the bargains, willingly investing gas and time to get the lowest prices, even if it means a big drive. We’re saving money, we say to ourselves.

  • If you’re driving in a fog, slow down

When we get overwhelmed our brains keep trying to play catch-up and in the process, this brain frenzy short circuits our actions. Now don’t get me wrong we are working like crazy but we don’t seem to be accomplishing much because we are trying to do too much too fast.

  • Not your mother’s tuna casserole

All home cooks appreciate the ease of accomplishment of doing dinner the one-pot way. When your family is busy and going in a million different directions, being able to make dinner in one pot, plunk down a salad and yell, “Dinner!” in the time it takes to boil pasta, is critical mass for any hectic family’s arsenal of timesaving tricks.

  • Treat your body to some sprouted grains

There’s a lot of talk these days about gluten sensitivity. Celiac disease, a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with the absorption of nutrients, has become more common in recent years.

And while gluten sensitivity is one thing, celiac is quite another. Grains that are sprouted can often be tolerated by gluten sensitive folks, while those with celiac just need to stay clear, unless of course, they have the go-ahead from their doctors.
