  • 'WALL-E' - A little talking, a lot of magical fun, and a life lesson

If you’ve seen the previews of “WALL-E,” you may wonder why the songs from the musical “Hello, Dolly” are in a film which takes place in 2700 A.D. But don’t worry, all of it makes complete sense in this wonderfully funny, but thought-provoking, animated film about a robot getting interrupted doing what he was designed to do. WALL-E is a trash collecting robot left on an abandoned Earth which was overrun by earth’s non-conservation-minded peoples. If this sounds a little heavy for children, a lesson is taught in a kid-friendly way.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK. In this quick re-make of the comic book superhero, we find Edward Norton as the normal human version of the green giant who was transformed by gamma rays. While Norton does add a more convincing persona to this twosome, is there really enough difference to merit this new version?

  • 'Get Smart' Missed it by that much, Chief!

Thankfully, the dead spots in “Get Smart” are somewhat erased with intense laughter in other scenes. This is when this film gets closer to the iconic, satiric TV series from several decades ago.

  • "The Incredible Hulk"- A not-so-jolly green giant

The opening credits pretty much expect moviegoers to know how Bruce Banner becomes the Hulk. Snippets of the relationship between Bruce and Betty and the experiment gone wrong are shown behind those credits. Additional flashbacks do fill in more details, but by that time we are well into the military plot against Bruce and his verdant alter ego. It’s amazing that the armed forces have time to fight real wars when they spend so much time trying to cover up botched experiments against various superheroes.

  • Kung Fu Fighting with Po Panda

“Belief is stronger than help” so says the wise Master Shifu to the bumbling Panda in the new animated film “Kung Fu Panda.” This is an amusing, witty, visually stimulating story which will engage all members of the family. The adults laughed at appropriate times, and the children talked to the screen telling various characters what they should be doing and answering questions before the characters could do so. Cool!
