College at Nazareth about to fold

Little short of a financial miracle will be needed to prevent the Nazareth campus of Spalding College from folding up after this school year.

The reasons: Mounting deficit and dwindling student enrollment.

The decision must come in the next two weeks, says Sister Ellen Egan, S.C.N., president of the college.

The college has indebtedness of more than $1,000,000 on the most recently built buildings —the four floor residence halls, never fully occupied, and the new dining commons, erected only last year. Debt service annually, $47,750.
