The Vinyl Kings will be featured at this week’s edition of the Summer Band Concert Series, cosponsored by the Stephen Foster Music Club and the Bardstown Parks and Recreation Department. The series, now in its 15th season of free, family-oriented concerts, is held at Bardstown Community Park each Friday at 7 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The Vinyl Kings perform the hit songs from the late 50s to the early 70s, including tunes by The Beatles, Buddy Holley, The Rolling Stones, the Dave Clark Five, Elvis, Johnny Rivers, Wilson Pickett and many more. These are the hits many of us grew up with.

The Louisville-based band has been together since 1999. The group consists of Mike Murphy on rhythm guitar, Lee Wade on bass, Rick Graves on drums, and Joe Campbell on lead guitar; all four members sing.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the Farmers Market on East Flaget Avenue.

Next week’s program will feature local group Wildfire, playing classic and top 40 country hits.

This year’s Summer Band Concert Series is again being underwritten by the Bardstown offices of Edward Jones Investments. Corporate Patrons are: General Nelson Inn, Town & Country Bank, William and Janet Franklyn, and Linda and Jerry Bruckheimer. Patrons of the Arts this year are: Dick and Alice Heaton, Farm Bureau Insurance (agent Jay Allen), Five Star Food Marts, Hibbs & Associates, Lincoln National Bank, Keith and Cheryl Board, Phil and Lynne Bowling, Thornridge Farm and Bardstown Copy & Print.

Many other local businesses and individuals also made contributions, making this year’s concert series possible.

It is recommended that attendees bring lawn chairs or blankets. The playground will be open, and parking is available.
