UPDATE: Charges against both men were dismissed in February 2017

Two Marion County men were arrested Monday on murder charges connected to a Bardstown man’s killing in Washington County.

Taron M. Sanders, 20, and Bryson D. Sleet, 18, were arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Lebanon Police officers around 10 a.m. Monday.

The men were indicted by a Washington County grand jury last week for the murder of Yul Andre Rayford, 51, of Bardstown.

A media release from Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Clements said Sanders was arrested at Independent Stave and Sleet was arrested at 124 Hardin Place in Lebanon.

According to the release, both men were taken to the Marion County Detention Center and were under a $250,000 cash bond.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release any other details. A Lebanon Police spokesman said the Kentucky State Police out of Post 15 in Columbia was handling the investigation. A message to the post was not returned by the Tuesday afternoon press deadline for this issue.

Rayford was found lying in his vehicle June 14, shot in the head but still alive, about 1.5 miles north of Springfield along Ky. 55. He was found by a landowner whose wife called 911. Rayford was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville, where he died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

The man who found Rayford told the Standard he was still buckled into his seat when he found him. No weapon was reported found at the scene. Family reported last seeing him around 7 a.m. the day he was shot.

Rayford’s Facebook page listed his hometown as Compton, Calif., but he had spent several years in the Bardstown area.
