Tuesday morning rollover sends semi driver to hospital

Update: 3:15 p.m. - The scene has been cleared and all lanes are open.

The driver of a semi was injured during a rollover accident Tuesday morning at the 27-mile marker eastbound on the Bluegrass Parkway.

According to a press release from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Kiger of Smyrna, Tenn., was traveling westbound when he crossed over the median and into the eastbound lanes. The semi — owned by A.L.A. Trucking of Anderson, Ind. — overturned and came to rest on the driver’s side.

According to the release, Kiger was inside the cab and had to assisted out. He was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital by Nelson County EMS.

Nelson County Sherriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Nelson County Fire & Rescue, Nelson County EMS, Ellis Wrecker Service and the State Highway Department.

The accident caused the eastbound lanes to be closed while the semi was righted and debris was cleared.
