With the promise of good weather, the City of New Haven is hoping to see its community and guests show their appreciation for the town Saturday with the third annual New Haven Appreciation Day.

“We hope to have a big crowd and are hoping the weather stays nice,” said Phil Johnson, who has been helping coordinate the event.

The past year has been particularly big for the small town, with the formation of the Community Development Committee looking to improve New Haven’s appeal to tourists and residents. A series of photos placed around the town, called the Historical Perspectives project, also offers a look into New Haven’s past.

Not only has 2017 been a year of development, the city has also seen the election of a few new leaders and is gearing up for its bicentennial celebration in 2020, which is expected to include activities spread over the course of a year.

On Saturday, the community is asked to come together and show their support and appreciation for their city.

Festivities officially kick off at 6 p.m. at the New Haven Ball Park, where free live musical performances from several local groups will take place throughout the evening.

Free bounce houses will be available for kids from around 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will also be hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ sandwiches, drinks and chips for sale. Families are invited to pack their own picnic to enjoy the night as well.

Organizers hope to make the celebration a tradition.

“Come out and support us to keep it going,” Johnson said.
