Tickets available for Thursday night performance

Bardstown for the Arts/The Gallery and Heaven Hill presented "Speakeasy Bourbon Style," an original play by Toni Wiley Wednesday and Thursday at the art gallery on Court Square.  Wiley was announced last year as the gallery's playwright in residence.

The play, featuring several locals, ran a little more than an hour and included songs such as "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and "Jazz Baby." The performance incorporated the audience of about two dozen, who were welcomed to the upper portion of the gallery after providing the "password."

A suspicious police officer, a not-so-legal business and bourbon made the event a comedic and musical night for those in attendance. The play was written by Toni M. Wiley and directed by Hannah Bowman. Cast members included Wiley, Charlie Beam, Adam Riley, Shane Wiley, Jan McIntyre, Serena Lear, Beth Head, Evelyn Lear, and Mark Hicks.

Jennifer Young catered a pre-show gathering, and several Gallery members helped make the night possible. Daffodil Hills sponsored a three-piece jazz band, comprising Nathan Bowman, Bill May and Marlin McKay, which provided live music during the performance.

Ticket sales will benefit the Bardstown for the Arts/The Gallery. For those who missed the Wednesday show, another performance was scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 14, with art displays at 7 p.m. and show time at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at The Gallery.

Bourbon inspired artwork done by local distillery employees can also be viewed at The Gallery.
