Eight months.

That’s how long Steve Uram was given to prove himself as Bardstown’s police chief. His time with the city ended Thursday.

Uram was hired last fall by former Mayor John Royalty to replace Rick McCubbin, who resigned in April 2016 after Royalty reorganized the Bardstown Police Department without consulting McCubbin — while the chief was on medical leave.

Royalty then promoted McKenzie Mattingly, a leader of the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force, to captain and made him acting chief, and elevated Brad Gillock to lieutenant.
