Penn St. saga shows why cover-ups are a bad idea

Like many of you, before this past week’s events I viewed two-time national championship-winning coach Joe Paterno and the Penn State football program he is synonymous with as a paragon of virtue, a shining beacon on the hill, cutting through the murky haze that is the sleazy world of big-time college athletics.

Like many of you, I’m trying hard to make sense of this new information that suggests Penn State might be the sleaziest of them all. It troubles me, to be sure.
