An Elizabethtown woman was killed and a man injured early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on the Bluegrass Parkway.
According to a collision report from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, the accident was reported around 5:30 a.m. near the 12 mile-marker. A preliminary investigation showed a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Monte Wilson started to go off the right shoulder, overcorrected and lost control, striking a guardrail on the driver’s side and then a tree. The accident was called in by Wilson, who was attempting CPR on a female passenger, 38-year-old Amber Greenwell, according to the report. Greenwell was pronounced dead at the scene once emergency crews arrived. A dog riding in the vehicle was also killed in the collision.
Wilson, also of Elizabethtown, was airlifted from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital.
The collision report indicates Wilson may have been speeding and fell asleep when the accident occurred. As of press time for this edition, the accident was still under investigation.
Nelson County Sheriff’s deputies, Nelson County EMS, Nelson County and Boston firefighters responded to the scene. The westbound lanes were shut down to allow a medical helicopter to land.

Teens injured in Friday rollover

Sunday’s crash was not the only major accident in Nelson County over the weekend. On Friday night, two teens were also seriously injured when a vehicle they were in crashed and overturned near the intersection of Lawrenceburg Road and Murphy Lane around 6:30 p.m.
A witness to the crash told deputies with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling westbound on Lawrenceburg Road toward Bloomfield when he saw the vehicle travel off the road, hit a culvert at a church entrance and go airborne. The vehicle struck a tree, struck two other vehicles and rolled several times before coming to a rest.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Zachary Moore of Bloomfield, and a 15-year-old passenger, were extricated from the vehicle. Moore was flown to University of Louisville Hospital and the juvenile, whose name will be withheld because of his age, was flown to Norton Children’s Hospital.
Collision reports from both Sunday’s fatal accident and Friday’s rollover indicate the crashes are being investigated for possible criminal responsibility.
