Motel room double overdose leads to child endangerment charges

A man and woman are charged with endangering the welfare of minors after overdosing on drugs while in the presence of their children.

According to arrest citations from the Bardstown Police Department, John (36) and Michelle (40) Lowery, overdosed on heroin in a room of the Wilson Motel on North Third Street Friday afternoon.

Inside the room at the time of the overdoses were four children, one of whom was a child with special needs.

The parents were revived with Narcan, an opiate antidote, and taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Both were arrested later that day and charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and one count of endangering the welfare of an incompetent person. They were set for arraignment Tuesday afternoon.

John Lowery was also wanted on separate charges out of Florida at the time of his local arrest.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections Offender Network, Lowery was listed as an absconder/fugitive. Lowery was on probation for a 2014 grand theft offense out of Pinellas County. His probation was set to end in April.
