Social network use violates sex offender registration

A Boston man was arrested Monday morning after his use of social media caught the attention of police.

Dustin D. Nelson, 29, a registered sex offender, had maintained a social media profile, which was not listed on his offender registry, violating conditions of his registrations, according to a press release.

Nelson was arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Jail on one county of failure to comply with the sex offender registry and one count of a sex offender using a social network.

According to the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry, the offense Nelson is registered for is third-degree rape of a 13-year-old. Court records list Nelson as having an alias of Dustin Cook.

The investigation is continuing and those with information are asked to contact the Bardstown Police Department at (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch at (502) 348-3211.
