Three years after a Bardstown man was found shot in an apartment above a nightclub, a suspect has been arrested for his murder.

The Bardstown Police Department announced on Facebook Friday evening they had arrested 26-year-old Robert Zachary Tate and charged him for the 2016 murder of Michael Wayne Unseld.

Unseld, 61, was found shot in his apartment above the Broken Tee Nite Club on West Stephen Foster Avenue just after midnight June 4, 2016. He was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to early reports in the investigation, Unseld was shot at close range on June 3.

A few weeks after the killing, BPD posted a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, and at the time, was interviewing persons of interest but had not named any suspects.

Bardstown Police Chief Kim Kraeszig said in a phone call Friday Detective Lynn Davis has been working the case through a “persistent investigation” and the department was happy to make progress in the case.

“He never stopped working tirelessly on this,” Kraeszig said of Davis.

However, police would not comment further on the investigation or what led to Tate's arrest on Friday.

A citation filed in court Monday morning provides three sentences of narritive regarding Tate's arrest in the case. The citation reads:

"On June 3, 2016, Michael Wayen Unseld was murdered at 707 W. Stephen Foster Ave. #A. Detectives received information from eye witness that stated above listed defendant (Tate) shot and killed victim. Detectives also received information from witnesses that stated above defendant admitted to killing victim."

Tate is scheduled to be arraigned in court Tuesday afternoon.
