A Bardstown man was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a domestic situation involving a handgun.

According to a press release from the Bardstown Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home on Valley View Drive on a possible suicidal complaint involving a male with a weapon.

Upon arrival, police learned that Walter Ray Schooling Jr., 33, had returned home, retrieved a 9mm semi-automatic handgun from the residence and entered a vehicle.

According to the release, a domestic issue followed when a female, who was not identified by police, attempted to get the handgun away from Schooling, who fired a round through the vehicle’s roof. Schooling then fled the area on foot.

Officers located Schooling at another residence on Fern Lea Circle where he was arrested. Officers recovered the handgun along with seven rounds of ammunition from the vehicle along with the spent round, according to the release.

Schooling was arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Jail on one count of first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

The investigation is continuing. Those with information are asked to contact the Bardstown Police Department at (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch at (502) 348-3211.
