A 33-year-old Bardstown man accused of fondling women while they shopped was recently indicted on sex abuse charges.

According to arrest records, police received a complaint of a man dressed in black grabbing women’s “buttocks” inside Kroger on Oct. 17. When officers arrived, they were unable to find the man, but later received reports of the same subject walking on East Stephen Foster.

Deputies stopped the man, identified as Kenneth W. Barnes, until BPD arrived.

Barnes was questioned, cited for a separate charge and released.

However, an hour later, officers received a report that Barnes was at Walmart and grabbed another woman.

According to a uniform citation, the victim stated that she was walking down an aisle when the man grabbed her from behind and was “fondling her and pressing himself against her.”

After screaming for help, other customers came to the woman’s aid.

Barnes was arrested on sex abuse charges later that day.

On Jan. 6, he was indicted for first-degree sexual abuse, fourth-degree assault, five counts of third-degree sexual abuse, and failure to notify address change to Department of Transportation.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash, plus conditions. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court Jan. 21.
