A Bardstown woman was the victim of an unusual assault this weekend after she was hit with a brisket.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Mary Berry, 35, of Bardstown, was working the BBQ Festival in Danville Kentucky Sunday, Sept. 13, when she was hit with the flying piece of meat during a fight.

Police were called to the scene where the Herald-Leader reports pit master Mike Owings, 42, of Cunningham entered an altercation with another pit master.

The Herald-Leader reports that Owings admitted to officers that he threw the brisket — estimated to 200 to 250 degrees — when it struck Berry who was nearby.

The brisket reportedly hit Berry in right shoulder, neck and head. She was treated on site by Boyle County emergency crews.

Owings was arrested and charged with second-degree wanton endangerment and was housed in the Boyle County Jail, the Herald-Leader reported.
