A Taylorsville man, Jeremy A. Miller, is facing felony abuse and assault charges after allegedly shaking his infant child, causing serious injuries.

According to a post-arrest complaint completed by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, local detectives were contacted by Norton Children’s Hospital on April 26 about a possible abuse case. During a four-month investigation, which also involved Child Protective Services, detectives learned Miller had allegedly shaken the 2-month-old in an attempt to make the child stop crying. Miller admitted to causing the injuries during a recent interview with detectives.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a forensic medical report was completed in the case last week which indicated the injuries the child received were “nearly fatal.”

Miller was arrested late Friday afternoon and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12 and first-degree assault. He has an arraignment set for Tuesday afternoon in Nelson County Court.
