Bardstown is the home of Nelson County’s GOP Headquarters as of Saturday. Republican supporters say this is the first headquarters of its kind to be located in Bardstown in recent memory.

Robert Augustine, chairman of the Nelson County Republican Party, said he’s always wanted a way to support Republican candidates and give them an area to operate out of in Nelson County and was pleased at the turnout for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

“I’m extremely happy people from the county and around the state came out and took time out of their Saturday,” Augustine said.

The new headquarters is located at 512 E. Stephen Foster Ave., giving it a centralized location within Nelson County.

“We wanted a place where we could organize volunteers,” Augustine said.

Augustine said the new headquarters offers a lot and gives party supporters a place to meet.

“The most important operation from this headquarters is to shout from the rooftops about the free market and individual liberty,” Augustine said.

Augustine said generous and energetic people made the obtaining of the headquarters possible.

“We asked the people if they wanted the headquarters and they responded,” Augustine said. “And here we are.”
