Nelson County and Bardstown firefighters were able extinguish a house fire Sunday at 116 Creel Lane before it could spread.

Nelson County Fire and Rescue got the call at 5:03 p.m. and called for assistance from the Bardstown Fire Department.

Bardstown Asst. Chief Todd Spalding said that when the city’s crew arrived, there was smoke showing from the attic, and firefighters attacked the fire through the front door. There was minimal damage to the attic and some minor water damage to other parts of the house.

Spalding said eight children and two adults lived at the residence but were not home at the time, and a dog that was home got out without being injured.

Spalding said it appeared that the fire started in a ceiling fan.
