Commuters between Washington and Nelson counties should plan on their trips taking a little more time starting today as road crews work on Springfield Road, U.S. 150.

Preliminary work on a paving project begins today on a stretch of roadway starting at the Nelson County line and extending to Bearwallow Road in Washington County. The roadwork will cover a little over four miles.

Crews were slated to start milling asphalt today with minor delays possible, according to Chris Jessie, a spokesman for the state transportation cabinet office in Elizabethtown. By Monday he said paving should begin and delays will be longer.

“Motorists should pay close attention to signs through the area, be prepared for slow or stopped traffic ahead and should allow for additional travel time,” Jessie said in a press release Friday.

Work should be completed next week.
