A Boston man has been indicted by a Washington County grand jury on murder and DUI charges following a Feb. 18 collision that resulted in the death of a Danville woman.

According to court documents, Hoyt J. Calhoun, 51, was traveling west on KY 150 Bypass in Springfield when he crossed the center line and crashed into an oncoming car, driven by Rhonda Yates, 51, of Danville.

Yates, who was transported by EMS to Spring View Hospital, was later pronounced dead. Calhoun and a passenger in his car were also injured and the passenger was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital.

According to Kentucky State Police, numerous beer cans were located at the scene and Calhoun admitted to drinking alcohol.

Following an investigation into the accident, Calhoun was charged with murder, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

At the time of the accident, Calhoun did not have permission to be in Washington County according to a violation of supervision report filed Feb. 19 because it violated his probation from a previous crime.

Calhoun’s criminal history includes several drug and alcohol offenses in Nelson, Spencer, LaRue and Bullitt Counties as well as flagrant non-support and sex abuse in Nelson County.

According to Kentucky Offender Online Lookup, Calhoun is currently serving time in Hart County Jail for LaRue and Nelson County offenses, including flagrant non-support and possession of cocaine.

His bond for the Washington County indictments is set at $100,000.
