Nelson County Schools, for the time being, will be under new leadership with a longstanding local investment. The Nelson County Schools Board of Education named Tom Brown as acting superintendent Saturday morning at a special called meeting.

Brown, who has previously served as a teacher, guidance counselor and assistant principal at Nelson County High School, will serve in the role as the district begins its search for a new superintendent.

The special called meeting was held after Anthony Orr announced his resignation as superintendent Thursday night, effective July 31, 2017. Orr will remain a district employee in a new position created for him by the board per an agreement, and will serve as director of process research and improvement through June 30, 2018.

Brown's position as acting superintendent will be effective Aug. 1.
