A Bardstown man was arrested Wednesday evening after police located a stolen vehicle at the Nelson County Public Library.

According to a press release from the Bardstown Police Department, officers responded to a report of a theft at Sunset Drive. On scene, the victim told officers he believed a friend had stolen items from him, including a white 2005 Dodge Magnum with Kentucky plates, and Xbox One, video game, and a Springfield Armory .45 caliber handgun.

According to the release, friends of the victim had observed Joey Hamilton, 37, of Bardstown, driving the victim’s car and told him where it was located.

Acting on this information, officers recovered the vehicle in the library’s parking lot just after 7 p.m., but Hamilton had reportedly fled the area on foot.

A canvas of the area was conducted, and Hamilton was located at a residence on South Kennett Avenue. He was arrested without further incident. Hamilton was lodged in the Nelson county Jail on one count of receiving stolen property (auto). The other items reported stolen have not been recovered.

The investigation is continuing and those with information are asked to contact the Bardstown Police Department at (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch at (502) 348-3211.
