'American Gangster' Excellent re-creation of '70s drug wars

-A A +A
By Fred Allen

Frank Lucas will do anything, including coldblooded murder to gain and protect the riches and power of his illegal drug empire in the Harlem section of New York. “American Gangster” is the tale of two powerful men, one on each side of the law, who want to destroy each other in the early 1970s. Contributing to the crisis is the presence of crooked cops in New York City. This film becomes even more vibrant because of the brilliant acting of its two leading actors, Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
