    On Friday, Aug. 18, after about five hours of riding Quads and covering as much terrain as possible looking for muskox, we took a quick lunch break using a hillside to get out of the endless 30-50 mph wind.

  • PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Bardstown...

    Bardstown continues to roll on the volleyball court with the Tigers capturing their 15th straight match win Tuesday, besting Thomas Nelson 25-11, 25-20, 25-13.

    The start is far and away the best in school history for Bardstown, who has the top record in the 5th Region at 16-1 as of Thursday morning. The Tigers were in action after press time Thursday at North Hardin and will be at home against Nelson County Monday as they look to extend the longest win streak in school history.

    Bardstown senior golfer Caleb Noble is this week’s nominee for The Kentucky Standard/PLG-TV 13 Student-Athlete of the Week.

    Caleb carries a 3.45 GPA and also participates on the Bardstown track team as a distance runner, and has been the Tigers’ top golfer for several years.

    Kentucky Standard sports editor Peter W. Zubaty had a few questions for Caleb to better get to know him.

  • PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: TNHS honors...

    Sunday marked the two-year anniversary of the tragic automobile accident that claimed the life of beloved Thomas Nelson senior soccer player Taylor Martin, but the Generals soccer team is making sure she won’t soon be forgotten.

    Monday was the second annual Taylor Martin Memorial Game pitting the Generals against rival Nelson County, and a big crowd turned out to celebrate the memory of Martin with moments of silence and a balloon release.

    Two local teams punched their tickets this weekend for the statewide All A Classic competition, with Bardstown capturing the region volleyball crown in its return to eligibility for the small-school state tournament, while Bethlehem grabbed its fifth straight girls’ soccer sectional title.

    Bethlehem Eagles Golf Scramble
    There will be a golf scramble at Maywood on Sunday, Sept. 24, to benefit the Bethlehem High School boys’ basketball program. Registration is 8 a.m., with shotgun start at 9. Cost is $75 per player and $300 per team. Hole sponsorships are available for $50. Entry fee includes lunch, water and sodas, cart and greens fees and door prizes.   • PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Bardstown...

    Bardstown shook off a first-set loss on the road Thursday, rallying back for three straight to win at Bethlehem and take over first place in the 19th District volleyball standings.

    The Tigers’ 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 victory on the Banshees’ home floor is just the second win in school history for Bardstown over Bethlehem, and marked the program’s 11th straight win.
