  • ‘Bloomfield boy’ chases dreams...

Dylan Beasley considers himself just a small-town boy from Bloomfield who loves to play football.

But in less than two months, he’ll get a big-city experience in his chosen sport that he never imagined possible when the former Nelson County High School and Lindsey Wilson College star quarterback heads overseas for the next chapter in his storied career.

  • STRAIGHT ARROW: My last bowhunt...

After spending most of last week at the Archery Trade Show in Indianapolis, it was good to get home, and with snow on the ground, I was anxious to go bowhunting one more time before the season was over.

  • YOUTH SPORTS: Teaching kids...

There used to be a prevailing wisdom that it’s not a good idea to get kids involved in an athletic training program too early. However, with children participating in sports at earlier and earlier ages, a lot of that thinking has gone out the window.

“Kids actually start these movements, some as early as 3-4 years old,” said Josh Payne, a certified personal trainer and youth exercise specialist.

  • Weather shuffles HS hoops...

Snow and cold weather this week have caused local school officials to shuffle around the high school basketball schedules.

Included in that is the 5th Region All A Classic, which was set to begin Monday, but only the Green County v. Caverna games were played, with Green County winning in girls and boys to set up semifinal matchups with Bethlehem Thursday after press time at Fort Knox.

  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP:...

SPRINGFIELD — With a schedule sprinkled with several of the top teams in the state, there have not been many relaxing moments for the Nelson County basketball team when they’ve stepped onto the floor.

That’s why Tuesday night coaches David Simpson and Jamie Hodges, subbing for head coach Troy Lee Thomas, who was ill, wanted the girls to go out and have fun against a 3-10 Washington County team they had smashed 71-14 earlier in the season.

    And have fun they did.
