  • Nelson County Schools on 2-hour delay Friday, Jan. 18

    Nelson County Schools will start on a 2-hour delay Friday, Jan. 19. Preschool will be closed the whole day. District child care will be open. 

  • Superintendent vacancies hit Kentucky school districts early

    As Nelson County and Bardstown Independent school districts progress with their plans to find new leadership for next school year, they are not alone. There are at least 12 districts in the state seeking to fill current or upcoming superintendent vacancies.

  • Nelson County Schools closed Thursday, Jan. 18

    Nelson County Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 18. It will be an NTI/Best Day. Child care will be open.

  • Nelson County Board candidates identified

    The two candidates seeking to fill the board vacancy for Nelson County Schools have been identified as Stephanie Norman, wife of former member David Norman, and Thomas J. Dickerson. John Thompson with the Kentucky Department of Education will conduct closed interviews with these candidates on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt will appoint the new board member at a later date. The board plans to have the new member in place by February.

  • Bardstown and Nelson County Schools closed Jan. 17

    Bardstown City Schools and Nelson County Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 17. This will be an NTI/Best Day for Nelson County Schools students.

  • Students, Rotarians ‘Love the Hungry’ by packing meals Monday

    By the end of the morning, the students and volunteers in Bethlehem High School’s cafeteria had packed close to 21,000 meals, many of which will be sent to Puerto Rico. While other schools were empty for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Bethlehem saw the holiday as an opportunity for service.

    “I do this every year,” said Abby Elder, president of the Catholic school’s Interact Club.

    Both Bardstown City Schools and Nelson County Schools are closed Tuesday, Jan. 16. District child care for Nelson County is also closed. It is not an NTI/Best Day.

  • Bardstown School Board to meet Tuesday

    The Bardstown Independent School District Board of Education will met at noon Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Central Office. The Central Office is located at 308 N. Fifth Street in Bardstown. The board will here from representatives of state organizations which can assist in the search for a new superintendent. On the agenda:

  • Nelson County Schools closed Friday, Jan. 12

    Nelson County Schools has canceled all school for Friday and has activated the plan for use of Non-Traditional Instructional days (NTI/Best Days), due to the prospect of dangerous road conditions. Nelson County child care centers will remain open.

    NTI/Best Days are used when main roads are clear but some side roads are not clear enough for buses to travel safely.  Our goal is to reduce the loss of instructional time as students continue working at home and teachers remain available through email, Skype, phone, or other methods of communication.

  • Nelson County School Board meeting rescheduled for Jan. 24

    UPDATE: This meeting has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24.

    The Nelson County Schools Board of Education will meet Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. at the Central Office. The Central Office is located at 288 Wildcat Lane in Bardstown.
