  • Judge won’t transfer Royalty’s appeal

    Nelson Circuit Judge John David Seay has denied the Bardstown City Council’s request to transfer former Mayor John Royalty’s appeal of his dismissal to the circuit’s other judge, Charles Simms.

    In his oral ruling June 24, Seay said it is a longstanding practice not to transfer a case unless a judge must recuse himself, and in this case, there is no need for recusal.

  • Former Bardstown mayor subject of grand jury inquiry

    Former Bardstown Mayor John Royalty is the subject of a grand jury probe, recent court filings and a hearing on Wednesday confirmed.

    Royalty’s attorney, Jason Floyd, is seeking to quash a subpoena a Nelson County grand jury issued to a woman who is in a “serious personal relationship” with the former mayor and also is an employee at Floyd’s law firm, Hubbard, Hubbard & Floyd.

  • Bardstown man indicted on rape charge

    A 28-year-old Bardstown man faces rape and unlawful transaction charges stemming from an alleged incident on May 30 in Nelson County.

    Matthew Turner was indicted Wednesday on a felony charge of first-degree rape and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

    According to the indictment, Turner is accused of using “forcible compulsion” against another person, though the age of the victim is not listed. Turner is also accused of knowingly giving an alcoholic or malt beverage to a minor.

  • Area allergists agree to pay $740,578 to settle improper billing claims

    Two physicians with offices in Bardstown agreed to pay the government more than three quarters of a million dollars for alleged improper billing of federal health programs, according to a statement released Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Louisville.

    Doctors Bruce Wolf and Kiro John Yun entered into an agreement to pay $740,578 to settle the government’s claims, according to John Kuhn, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.
