  • Case dismissed against three charged with 2009 murder

    The case against Kenneth C. Mattingly, Stephen Austin Howard and Maurice Greenwell for the 2009 murder of Donald Marshall has been dismissed, but the case will be reinstated at a later date pending the federal drug and gun trial of witness Nevelle Thompson.

    The decision to dismiss the trial was reached Tuesday afternoon at a pre-trial conference, according to Commonwealth Attorney Terry Geoghegan.

  • Nelson Circuit Court indictments

    Note: The indictment of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

    The following people have been indicted by a Nelson County grand jury.  They are set for arraignment in Nelson Circuit Court Dec. 16.

  • Chief Justice orders review of policy on ‘invisible’ cases

    Kentucky Chief Justice John Minton is seeking to improve the transparency of the state’s court records with a memo issued Nov. 17 asking circuit clerks to revisit instances in which court cases have been sealed from public view.

    There are 3,600 such cases that have been made invisible for the past several years, preventing the public from having any idea they existed, according to a Nov. 22 article in the Louisville Courier-Journal. Of the 3,600, seven are in Nelson County.
