Renae Swendson, manager at Speedy Mart, makes change for a customer Friday morning. The store was recently the focus of a Facebook post that was based on several inaccuracies and has suffered a decline in business and harassing phone calls as a result.
Facebook falsehoods impact Speedy Mart

Mark Twain once claimed a lie could travel half way around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.

That may have been true in the 19th century, but in the 21st, falsehoods have gained speed, aided in no small part by the ubiquity of social media.

And one local business has learned that truth the hard way.

A Bardstown woman accused the owner of Speedy Mart on Bloomfield Road Tuesday of confiscating a donation jar “filled with money,” and in about 24 hours the post had more than 1,000 shares.
