STATE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS: Tough first-round matches trip up locals

Four area wrestlers made it into Friday’s KHSAA State Wrestling Championships. Unfortunately, however, all four fell in the first round to higher-ranked opponents and saw their tournament runs end on the first day.

At 126 pounds, Nelson County junior Michael Donaway was taken down twice in the first period in his opening match against Calloway County’s Nick Dickerson, ranked No. 12 in Kentucky.

He was unable to recover, and eventually was pinned with four seconds left in the second period.
