Detective Joedy Gilliland of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office displays above his desk a Cincinnati Reds jersey that he believes his friend, Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis, wore during spring training camp in 2004. Before he became a policeman, Ellis was a professional ball player for the Billings Mustangs, a Reds farm team.
FOUR YEARS LATER: The hurt hasn’t healed

Hanging above Detective Joedy Gilliland’s desk at the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is a framed Cincinnati Reds jersey with the name “Ellis” on it and the number 32. He believes it is the shirt his friend wore during spring training in 2004.

Jason Ellis is, however, and will forever be remembered by another number, 139.
