    Matt and Katrina Moore, of New Haven, announce the birth of a daughter, Brynlee Marie Moore, Sept. 25, 2014, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. She weighed 1 pound, 2.3 ounces and was 11.5 inches long.

    Grandparents are Joe and Anita Moore, of Louisville, and Bill and Kay Mattingly, of Bardstown.

    The baby was welcomed home by two siblings, Aiden and Audrina Moore.

    She was born at 25 weeks and is currently doing well. 

  • Birth: Fields

    Anthony Fields and Tracy Bray, of Bardstown, announce the birth of a son, Lucas Anthony Fields, Sept. 27, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He weighed 9 pounds, 6.5 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Jessie and Leon Bray, of Bardstown.

    Paternal grandparents are Angela and Mark Fields, of Springfield.

    Great-grandparents are Freida McDonald, and the late Joe McDonald and Norma Jean and Earl Fields.

    The baby was welcomed home by a sister, Adalynn Bray, 2.

    Laura Nicole and Sabe Thomas Oliver, of Taylorsville, announce the birth of a son, Cambron Alexander, Oct. 7, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Lisa Richards and Buddy Harlow, both of Shelbyville. Paternal grandparents are Tim and Phyllis Oliver, of Taylorsville.

    Great-grandparents are Pat and Fred Richards, of Taylorsville, and Josephine Chesser, of Taylorsville, and the late Sabe Chesser.

    The baby was welcomed home by a brother, Sabe II, 4.

  • Niman turns 100

    Rita Pottinger Niman celebrated her 100th birthday at the home place near Boston where she and her 10 slblings were born.

    Nisan is the daughter of Lee and Estella Cash Pottinger, and she was married to the late Willis Kennedy Nisan.

    Of the 11 children of Lee Pottinger, Rita and her sister, Betty, remain. Their deceased siblings are Lottie, Louree, Newman, Virgil and Nancy Pottinger Meyers, children of Lee and Laurinda Newman Pottinger. Lee and Estella were the parents of Ethel Pottinger Roby, Samuel Pottinger, Ruby Pottinger Gaullett and Ann Pottinger Coyle.

  • New Haven Iron Horse Festival gives back to community



    The New Haven Iron Horse Festival Committee presented checks to several community groups at the Board of Commissioners meeting Oct. 16. The donations were made possible through surplus funds from the Iron Horse Festival. Groups donated to include the New Haven Library, Trunk or Treat, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Troop 996, Girl Scouts, FRYSC, City of New Haven, Community Christmas Basket project, New Haven Enhancement Team and the New Haven Senior Group.

  • Barton's leader, war veteran passes

    After fleeing the Nazis and fighting for the U.S. in World War II, Paul Leopold Kraus made Bardstown his home for two decades, where he worked as the plant manager for Barton Brands’ distillery.

    Kraus died Sept. 22 in Chicago, where he had moved to serve as chief operating officer for Barton Brands and remained after his retirement.

    Born in 1919, Kraus was the son of Emil and Marie Winternitz Kraus and was raised in Pernegg an der Mur, Austria. He completed high school in Graz and attended medical school for two years in Prague.

  • Wedding: Hamilton-Mattingly

    Courtney Beth Hamilton and Kevin Patrick Mattingly, both of Louisville were married at 2 p.m. May 24, 2014, at Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville.

    The bride is the daughter of Donnie and Gayle Hamilton, of Bardstown.

    The groom is the son of Karen Mattingly, of Bardstown.

    The Rev. Stephen Pohl officiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father.

    The maid of honor was Alyson Hamilton, sister of the bride.
