In the Kitchen

  • Perfectionism is not a virtue

    MARLA CILLEY

    THE FLYLADY

When we least expect it, perfectionism reaches out and knocks us in the head. It keeps us from following our hearts desire and stops us dead in our tracks. Perfectionism triggers procrastination. This is when we tell ourselves; we don’t have time to do it right so we do nothing. We have all suffered with this affliction.

  • How to stop stress eating

If life is overwhelming and ice cream is your comfort, you have fallen classically into stress eating. Is your job weighing you down? Do your family’s needs seem endless and way too much? And is that chocolate bar you stowed away behind other pantry items starting to call out to your subconscious? That, my friends, is the influence of stress. Trust me, I’ve been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt. Realized it was two sizes larger than before and something had to change.

  • The skinny on diets

LEANNE ELY CNC, THE DINNER DIVA

Quick question: Do fad diets work? The answer is YES. Surprised I’d say that, aren’t you? But I’m not finished. You will lose weight (and probably muscle; not the fat loss you wanted) and then most likely (97 percent likely as a matter of fact), gain it all back, plus a few more. Fad diets aren’t pretty.

  • Angry words don’t help

    By MARLA CILLEY,THE FLYLADY

What is it about out busy lives that causes us to spout angry words like a geyser? At the drop of a hat we can spew nastiness all over our loved ones, friends and even total strangers.

I have heard every excuse in the world for the angry words that come from our mouths. They start with: I had a bad day, I didn’t get much sleep and the worst — you made me do it. This excuse is not any different from the abusive husband who blames his wife because he hit her.

  • Celebrate a late Cinco de Mayo

By LEANNE ELY CNC, THE DINNER DIVA

Cinco de Mayo is more than just another celebration paired with great food, it’s a celebration paired with Mexican food! Yum, yum, one of my favorite ethnic food categories. Flavorful, spicy and delicious — always surprising and satisfying to everyone’s taste buds.

  • Who can you trust with your food news?

By Leanne Ely CNC, The Dinner Diva

What is good for you, what is bad for you, and who do you believe?

It seems that every nutrition-based report the media releases eventually contradicts itself. One day they say soy products are good for you, and the next thing you know they’re discouraging you to eat them. The same can be said for various oils, sugars, food additives, and more. It’s enough to make anyone want to throw their hands up in defeat!

  • Hiding behind doors

By Marla Cilley, The Fly Lady

We have lived our lives not being able to open the door; you know that “can’t have anyone over syndrome” that has paralyzed us.We have other doors that we hide behind. It is perfectionism that keeps us huddled behind them in fear and shame. Remember that the opposite of love is fear.

  • Body clutter bandwagon

    By MARLA CILLEY,  THE FLYLADY

This past weekend Leanne Ely and I had a “Girls Weekend”! We had a great time reminiscing about our decade of friendship. We have been on quite a journey! Those life experiences have had many up and downs emotionally and with our personal Body Clutter!

I met Leanne when she came to my house to interview me for her newspaper column. We hit it off. A few weeks later, I asked her to write for my FlyLady Email Group. I help you get your kitchen clean and she helps you put dinner on the table.

  • Insider tips on veggies

By LEANNE ELY CNC, THE DINNER DIVA

Most folks assume that whatever is available in the produce section is what’s in season. This isn’t necessarily the case. Sure, grocery stores offer a wide variety of fruits and veggies year-round, but that doesn’t mean the flavor and freshness are there as with produce that is in the peak of its season.
