The release states that Donald L. Howard and Vincent D. Nethery lied about having information that implied Danny Singleton was involved in Rogers’ murder.

“This was based on the wording they used,” Assistant Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa said, adding that the case is still being treated as a missing persons investigation, not a homicide.

The statements were reportedly made Dec. 29.

After being questioned further about the details of the information, both admitted they lied to investigators, making the story up as a way to try and get out of jail.

In a phone call Thursday morning, Pineiroa said that neither Howard or Nethery had ties to Houck or Singleton that he knew of.

He also said that Singleton is still facing 38 counts of perjury related to the investigation, and is still in custody in Hardin County.
