According to a press release, Bardstown Police Officer Dalton Pinkston observed a black Chevrolet Avalanche run a red light around 11:05 p.m. Tuesday on Bloomfield Road. The driver, Joshua Reishaun Downs, 34, and a passenger, David Lee Cox, 27, were identified.

Assisted by Officer Reece Riley and Sheriff’s Deputy A.J. Lewis, a consent to search was obtained for the vehicle and the officers located two bags containing items believed to be stolen.

Tuesday morning, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office had investigated a burglary at a residence on Bennelli Drive. Two weapons — a semi-automatic handgun and a revolver — were believed to have been stolen from that residence and recovered inside the vehicle, according to the release.

Officers also found and seized $1,400 in cash, multiple medications, narcotics, drug paraphernalia and video games during the search, according to the release.

Downs was arrested and charged with disregarding a traffic control device, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in controlled substance (heroin), possession of a controlled substance (heroin), first-degree possession of controlled substance (drug unspecified), third-degree possession of controlled substance and prescription drugs not in proper container.

Cox was also arrested and charged with two counts possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and receiving stolen property.

It was also discovered that Cox had five arrest warrants with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle was seized and impounded. The investigation is ongoing and those with information are asked to contact the Bardstown Police Department at (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch (502) 348-3211.
