RIVER RAT: Don't overthink it on Sunday

-A A +A
By Peter W. Zubaty, Sports Editor

Super Sunday is here, and while it’s a Super Bowl rematch with Philly and New England, it really isn’t. The only holdovers from the Pats’ win over the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX are Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

And as much as I would love to see the Eagles finally stop the Pats and prevent them from tying the Steelers for more Super Bowl wins, the fact that those two gentlemen are still on the New England side makes all the difference in the world.

My heart says Philly has the nasty front four to make Brady uncomfortable in the pocket. My heart says Philly’s complete defense has the linebackers and secondary to give the New England receivers all kinds of trouble. My heart says Philly can mix it up enough on offense with a stout running game and strong receiving corps to match scores with New England. And my heart says Nick Foles can recreate what he did two weeks ago in blasting Minnesota.

But I don’t make these picks with my heart, unfortunately. Until somebody other than the Giants and Eli Manning proves they can slay the Brady-Belichick monster, my head will make this pick. (On a side note, does anybody else find it interesting that all the Giants, Starboys and Redskins fans they know seem to be all-in on the Pats Bandwagon? And I thought my hate for the Ratbirds ran deep. Those NFC East fans got issues.)

Regardless, I anticipate this to be a thrilling game, but as per usual, New England and its superior conditioning will make the difference in the fourth quarter.

The pick: Pats 26, Iggles 24
