Party for a good cause

-A A +A

Nelson County Community Clinic holding benefit dance New Year’s Eve

By Frank Johnson

Four years ago, working families who earned wages barely above the poverty line had few options for securing health care.

Earning enough money to be disqualified for federal assistance but stuck in jobs where employers did not provide health insurance, these individuals and families often went without or came in for expensive emergency room visits when a crisis hit.

Because of this need, the the volunteer-run Nelson County Community Clinic was created in September 2006. It provides free health care to the so-called “working poor.”
