A 58-year-old Canadian man was killed Sunday night on the Bluegrass Parkway after his motorcycle collided with a car.

According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police, the accident occurred around 6 p.m. when Joel Stegner, 20, of Fort Thomas, was traveling east near the 8-mile marker in a 2006 Ford Focus.

For unknown reasons, Stegner’s vehicle left the North side of the roadway, traveled through the median and into the westbound lanes of the parkway, according to the release.

The vehicle entered the path of 58-year-old Michael Sinclair, of Washago, Canada, who was operating a 2008 BMW motorcycle. Sinclair was unable to avoid Stegner’s vehicle, striking the driver’s side door.

Sinclair was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner. Stegner was extricated from the vehicle and flown to University of Louisville Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The accident closed the westbound lanes for an extended time Sunday. The accident is still under investigation.
