Man arrested on rape and sodomy charges

A New Haven man has been arrested and charged following a rape investigation.

According to a press release from the Bardstown Police Department, on Oct. 12 police arrested Owen Lee “Peetie” Maddox, 37, following a rape investigation that was opened on Oct. 8. The investigation revealed that an adult female victim had been raped and sodomized on or about Oct. 6 between 2 and 5 a.m. at a residence in Bardstown.

Maddox was lodged in the Nelson County Jail on one count of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree sodomy. Other charges are possible and one other person may be charged. Capt. Tom Roby with Bardstown Police said in an interview with The Kentucky Standard that police believe drugs and alcohol were involved.

According to the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, Maddox was on parole after being convicted of second-degree burglary and first-degree fleeing or evading police in 2012. He has an extensive criminal history including drug and theft charges.

At the time of his arrest, Maddox admitted to the sodomy charge, according to the release.
